TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The Hypericum
perforatum is a bush with yellow-gold flowers that
can reach up to 80 cm of height. It is a native species
from areas of Europe, Asia and Africa, acclimatized in the
United States, Brazil and other countries. It is been used
since the Medium Age by its pharmacological properties.
It presents a big amount of chemical components between
that the most important are: derived antra quinonics (hypericin,
isohypericin, protohypericin), flavonoids (kaempferol, quercetin,
luteoline), glycosides (rutin, quercitrin, hyperosids),
bio flavonoids (biapigenin and amentoflavon) and catequin;
it still contains tannins, phenols (cafeic acid, ferules
acid, etc), essential oils (limonene, geranial, humuleno,
etc).
There are accomplished
studies that check the action of the hypericum as an anti-depressive,
once that, in the organism, it inhibits the action of the
monoamine oxidize enzymes (MAO) and catecol-o-methyl-transferase
(COMT) involved in the process of retaking of the amines
in the brain. It also presents soothing action of the hypericin
in the organism, anti virus effects, anti-microbian action,
healing, antiseptic, soft diuretic, astringent and anti-inflammatory.
The species Macropiper
methysticum popularly called kava kava is
traditionally used in ceremonies of native societies of
the South Pacific Islands. Its chemical composition consists
mainly of well-known resins as kava-lactones (kavain, dihydro-kavain,
mesticinin, dihydro-mesticinin, inangonin and demetoxi-iangonin),
carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, chalconne flavokavins
A and B.
The pharmacological
effect is mainly due the presence of the kavaporins. They
provide muscular relax and they are responsible for the
anxietility activity, which results in decrease of the emotional
irritability and of the anxiety, with positive change of
the humor. They also present analgesic effect and antipyretic.
The honey is
produced by bees from the nectar of the flowers. It is a
rich food, which presents in its composition simple sugars
with fast assimilation on the organism, mineral salts (potassium,
sodium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, manganese, etc.), amino
acids, enzymes and vitamins. It presents the following properties:
expectorant, fluidifying, healing, and antiseptic.
Honey facilitate the
ingestion and absorption of the products, and prevents the
oxidation of its ingredients.
